Choosing the Right Water Trough

You need to build an external frame to prevent it from falling. However, cylindrical or round water troughs can hold up and will now bow down. Their structure is self-supporting; as long as it is not backed up near a wall and can get a size that’s perfect for your herd, it may be useful to get around or oval tank to save you money from building a framework.

Materials Matter

Metal/Steel: Steel livestock water troughs are relatively durable and are highly unlikely to crack their frames. But their joints can be bent, and pipes can be misaligned, which can cause plumbing problems and water leakage.

Plastic: Plastic water troughs are the most versatile of all. However, they are vulnerable to cracks, but some are UV resistant, preventing them from becoming brittle after being exposed to the sun.
Concrete: This is probably the most durable of all. Once poured, concrete water troughs are unlikely to be moved or removed by anyone or anything.

Fibreglass: Fibreglass ones are light and easy to install, but they are the most prone to cracks.
